Band : Church Of Misery Church Of Misery have made a overwhelming impression on me. They played an amazing crushing let’s kill em all show at the legendary Roadburn festival this year. Let’s see if this new album can do the same. Definitely Yes. Church Of Misery deliver us their third full length studio album entitled Houses Of The Unholy, an album that will end up high in my yearlist I can tell you. Our mad fave Japanese/Aussie serial killers have returned to give your already splattered head the beating of a lifetime! Each song is devoted to a different well-(un)known serial killer (ex : Albert Fish, Richard Speck, Charles Starkweather) Houses Of The Unholy also features a gruesome cover of “Master heartache” by Sir Lord Baltimore. Next time you watch Monster Magnet, ask Dave Wyndorf about this obscure gem. Simply put, this is an unholy blend of Cathedral, Down, Black Sabbath, EyeHateGod, Saint Vitus, Groundhogs, Blues Creation, Leafhound,… well, you get the idea. The band sounds tighter than on their previous albums, but also slightly heavier and even more aggressive and in-your-face, and the band even managed to throw in a pinch of a malevolent atmosphere that pops up just in the right places If you enjoyed their previous material this will certainly appeal to you as well. 95/100 Cosmicmasseur. |
