Band : Grimmstine Former Grim Reaper/Lionsheart/Onslaught lead vocalist Steve Grimmett has allied forces with guitarist Steve Stine and the full Sons of Poseidon rhythm section of drummer Dave Johnson and bassist Hat. Grimmstine has some fantastic power tunes, which any metal fan will love. While the song titles (“911”, “To catch a killer”, “Prisoner”, “Take this air” and “Afraid of the dark”) are no proof of originality, the real cool stuff comes with the music. Many of the songs are melodic with heavy guitars. Grimmstine slow things down on “You’ll never know” and “You give me love” where Grimmett shines with two nice Dokken meets Y & T ballads with fantastic soaring leads by Stine. Grimmett still sounds as dynamic as twenty five years ago, there is great guitar work by Steve Stine throughout the CD and the production is nice, juicy and full of stamina... While familiar sounding, a few of these songs have very catchy melodies and are delivered with solid execution.. The very good use of mood, well structured songs and musical ability makes this 72-minute album a good pick for anyone into a classier sort of power metal. It has its highs and lows, but nothing a let down. Good classic metal music that doesn't stray too far beyond their influences, but is hard to get really enthusiastic about without being a fanatic of that particular style 85/100 Cosmicmasseur. |
