Band : Nachtmystium Nachtmystium have existed since 2000. Formed by Blake Judd and Pat "Noctis" McCormick, the band started off as a primitive 4-tracker black metal band. Over the years, the band has progressed through many line up changes and the sound has constantly matured, stepping away from the typical black metal thematic and embracing different influences within the sound, while maintaining a raw and harsh edge that's unique to the black metal genre. The band's name is derived from the German word Nacht meaning ‘night’, and the made-up term mystium which resembles the Latin adjective ‘mysticum’. Judd and McCormick combined the words to create the band's name, which they state means ‘Encompassing Darkness’.[ I'll be straight up with you guys out there, I don't want to lie to you, and it's nothing that I'm proud of, but unfortunately this is the first Nachtmystium album I've ever heard. If you like Wolves In The Throneroom, old Enslaved, Burzum, Autopsy,... or other such bands this will be familiar territory for you. The first song “Bones” sets the mood for what Nachtmystium is all about – chaotic, ringing death bells, blastbeats and very pissed off. This platter is an anthem for insanity, hatred, fuck-ups and the end of the world. These four tracks feature an interesting mix of bewildering technicality and simplistic 80s thrashing riffing ala Kreator, Mefisto, Possessed,… Overall I liked this short album, but I was disappointed with the lack of vocal variances, though very and likewise, I also got a little bit of the 'sameness' feeling while listening to it.
