Band: Nightshade There used to be a Swedish band called Nightshade, performing Death / Black Metal, a German one within the Power Metal scene, one so-called melodic Death Metal-band from Swiss (which changed its name into Xicon a few years ago), you’ve got the Illinois-band with Rick S. (Usurper) (Heavy / Dark / Gothic Metal), and there’s the recently reformed Nightshade from Washington (Traditional / Heavy Metal). Also Malaysia (Nightshaders) and Mexico (Nightshades) have similar band names in their Heavy / Death Metal scene. And since 2005, there is also a French band with the same moniker. After two self-produced EP’s (Perpetual Suffering and Before The Violence), The Beginning Of Eradication is the newest studio recording, having a total running time of twenty eight minutes (which makes this release a mini-album). The short tracks (between two and three minutes, except for one longer track and both in- and outtro) are mainly mid-tempo oriented, but do contain several faster parts. The sound is groovy and very technical – the latter without any exaggeration yet with lots of conviction and craftsmanship (France seem to be one of the most important countries when it comes to this kind of technical-inspired (Death) Metal!). This thick wall of sonic pleasure sounds very old schoolish and the fat, pondering production make this old school feeling more than worthwhile listening to! A few faster pieces sound rather grinding, while the slowest parts are pretty oppressing. Nice! 81/100 Ivan Tibos. |
