Rather than work on a complete set of songs to record a new album, the guys from BTL have gone for a unique way to promote their new material, by releasing 2-track singles as soon as the songs are ready on the internet (downloadable or purchaseable at limited amount). Clever tactic, because this way, by the time they actually have enough stuff to make a full-length, the critics will have already been familiarised with the music.

Part one of that story contains the songs “Saturation Point” and “Hypersensitive”, both immediatelly recognizable through the typical voice of frontman Jo De Boeck and the musical style of the band (which has been reduced to a 4-piece with Gerry Verstreken still at the bass, but with new man John Van Tongelen at the drums, and Geert Fieuw playing all keyboards – well, not all…because “Hypersensitive” has a guest appearance by Lisa LaRue - as well as guitars). The second song may be slightly “harder”, but still has all the characteristics of BTL’s typical Classic Rock with slight progressive touches! By the way, “Saturation Point” is a re-write (re-arrangement)/re-make of an old song from a band (built around the Roxette concept) by the same name Fieuw played in 20 years ago. He was asked by the band’s former singer Fabienne De Lel to look up the old demo recordings and burn ‘em on a cdR for her to replace the tape she’d lost, and when in the process of doing that De Boeck heard the song, and wanted to do it as well!

Check out the tracks at myspace.com/beyondthelabyrinth or beyond-the-labyrinth.com (in both cases I “forget” to put the www. up front on purpose…you know, hackers and stuff!). Gee, I just realised…another advantage of working with singles towards a full-length, is that the true fans in a way now finance (at least part) of the upcoming full-length! Gréat tactics, BTL!
