CD REVIEW Cosmic Android

Band : Cosmic Android
Album Title : Electroplastic 7
Label : Self Release
Distributor : /
Release Date : 2009
Review : CDEP

Now I admit I have a bias for this Dutch band, considering I've met two members at Roadburn, I still was surprised to hear the fuzz that pours forth from their first debut  demo cdep. Five songs of pure groovin' satisfaction await you in Cosmic Android’s serving line.

“Go away” starts the bouncy and catchy sounds of Electroplastic 7 and “Valvestream” gets off with a solid up tempo drum beat by Suzan and cranked up guitars by Paul, there's more than a hint of Fu Manchu, Truckfighters & Dozer stoner style. The riffs are simple, but they throw out tons of energy. My fave “Speed of light” takes no prisoners on a electrifying paced journey through the heart of fuzz, wah wah and rerverb.. The vocals of Tjo are adequate at best but there is room for improvement.  “Planet lost” and “Basement” have a raw intensity and heavy handed hooks that give off a spacey backlash, complete with crunchy riffs, pummeling bass and thunderous drums. All riff rock, 3-4 minutes, simple and all straight-ahead.

Though this band is musically talented, they really should strive for a stronger sense of their own identity and sound, but there's enough on show to expect that Cosmic Android will be more than capable of following it up. I think it’s possible downloading the whole lot on their website www.cosmicandroid.com

And yes chapeau for the approach of a look-alike single, I’m sure if I drink Tjo’s  schnapps again I will spin the cdep on my turntable instead of  putting it in my cdplayer. (see ya at Roadburn 2010 for sure my friends and thanks for the delivery of my jacket))
