Band : Go To Berlin (From the band’s page at MySpace –with spelling fault adjustments :) “Go To Berlin is an Indie/Rock band based in Bucharest, Roumania. The band was formed during the Fall of 2007 and consisted of Micha Pautov, (vocals, guitar), Mircea Ionita (guitar), Paul Ballo (drums) and Alex Miu (bass). Not long after that, the band together with producer and guitarist Robert “Lama” recorded a demo. In May 2008 Robert decided to come out of the shadows and joined the band on-stage. July marked the appearance of the band’s self-financed video for the song “Jeremiah”. Shortly after, Ionita and Pautov left the band, and the remaining members went on gigging as a trio until in December 2008, when guitarist Matei Teposu joined the band. After having some success in their native Roumania, Go To Berlin are now approaching British soil with their 5-track offical debut EP Just A Band.” According to the band itself, they have a sound similar to the likes of “Carmella Bing, Ava Devine, Christina Bella and Magda Ciumac after they had too much Tsingtao beer…” and I’m sure I have no idea what that means, but certain is that the guys draw elements from Pop, Rock and Indie to make for a nicely tangled web of catchy melodies, soaring choruses, and added pleasing Rock solos. The 5 songs only making up for just under 18 minutes of playing time, this EP can still be seen as a truly beautiful calling card! In Roumania the band’s music has allowed them to get a plenitude of radio and television appearances (including on MTV Roumania), as well as performances on several festivals, and seen the UK’s history with this kind of bands, there’s really no reason why Go To Berlin wouldn’t somehow be appealing to the British public! I for one, wish the foursome the very best of luck, hope their music will allow them to get from out of their home country…because from what I’ve heard (and I’ve heard it from several older and more recent imigrants), it must be the single most corrupt country in Europe! An Autumn tour would be in the planning, but at myspace.com/gotoberlinofficial I’ve seen no evidence of that. What I díd find, is two tracks off the EP (plus a video of the band playing a song in collaboration with The Amsterdams) for anyone to check out! So, if Indie Rock is your thing, surf on over there! 88/100 Tony. |
