Release date: 2009
Review: MCD
Inner Eden are a London-based band, formed last year, with (session) members of e.g. Axis Of Evil, Wykked Wytch and Dark Heresy. This self-released mini-album consists of four tracks and has duration of seventeen minutes. It was mixed by Dan Sprigg and mastered by Tim Turan (Hecate Enthroned, Enthroned, Gorerotted etc) and the bass parts were done by Anorexia Nervosa’s Pierre Couquet.
The music on Re:Birth is a slightly thrashy form of Groove Metal with an aggressive undertone and up-tempo melodies. The lead vocals are strong female ones (by Holly Bolus), not of the operatic kind or in the vein of nowadays’ so-called ‘female fronted’ bands, yet a voice mixing melody with brutality and anger. Some additional vocals are deep death grunts or guttural screams. A few parts, especially the death grunt-supported ones, are clearly influenced by the UK Death Metal scene, yet most parts are technical and groovy-melodic. And it certainly rocks! The ferocity gets well with the heavy sound and for a debut release these compositions are all right. The band needs to grow some more, yet the start is a malicious fist in your face.
75/100
