Review: CD

The Swedish horde My Own Grave, with (session) members of e.g. Depraved, Angtoria and Cavevomit, recorded this second full length (the third official release) at Dan Swanö’s Unisound Studio. And in the vein of both former recordings, this album is phenomenal.
Of course the sound is extreme, overpowering and dense. Unisound, you see… Yet also the compositions and performance are of a high quality. The eleven hymns, with a total duration of (only) thirty six minutes, combine the best elements from the Swedish (old school) scene with USDM-ones. The tracks are very technical and hammering, with a mechanical rhythm section, sharp yet low-tuned riffs, sometimes epic, then again intense, a few fast and melodic guitar solos and deep, brutal grunts. The tempo varies a lot, from pretty slow over mid-tempo to grinding fast. And everything fits, meaning that the song structures are written with both an ingenious and a sick / sickened / sickening approach. And even though the band might combine elements from both Swedish and American bands, My Own Grave have an own sound.
Recommended!
