Band : Stonebride And in the immortal words of Andrew Wood - music is the universal language. I got this time a cd from a quartet from Croatia with similarities to artists like Down, Soundgarden, Electric Wizard, Datura and Acrimony. While not always groundbreaking or creative, the tracks on Inner Seasons are memorable and very melodious. Not only that, but their songs are well constructed and the quality of the recording is very good as well, giving the release a great sound even though it's self produced. The sludge riffing on “Bending roads” is reminiscent of Crowbar-style groove The crushingly slow epics “The amazing voyagers” and “To follow” have extended sections for spacey guitarwork. The massive breakdowns and the heavily squeezing groove on my fave track “Mr plow is growing hop” (love the title) are breathtaking. Final and longest 11-minute song “Drag & drop” takes the heavy acid blues jams from a Sons of Otis to an extreme, creating a powerful stoner rock song constructed around simple, but haunting riffs and lumbering rhythms. 90/100 Cosmicamasseur. |
