Band: Hatebreed
Title: For The Lions
Label: Century Media Records
Distribution: EMI
Release date: 18/05/2009
Review: CD
Hatebreed are one of the main projects of Jamey Jasta, also known from e.g. Kingdom Of Sorrow, Icepick and Crowbreed.
This new release isn’t a new studio recording, but it’s a compilation with covers from bands that have influenced / inspired Hatebreed’s music. Such a concept isn’t that original anymore (there are many bands that did record a (mini-) album with covers exclusively), but it might be interesting for the fans to see (or better: to hear) which bands / projects might be responsible for the birth of bands like, in this case, Hatebreed.
Anyway, most songs come from the Hardcore- and Thrash-scene and that’s not surprising at all, of course. The original versions mostly are better (but here’s no room or time for this kind of discussion), but a few time Hatebreed surprise me.
Some examples: Madball, Sick Of It All, Misfits, Slayer, Sepultura, Cro-Mags, Suicidal Tendencies, Agnostic Front, Obituary, D.R.I. etc; eighteen tracks in total with duration of forty eight minutes.
