Band: Madina Lake Well, the expectations I had about Madina Lake’s second full-length album (having reviewed Attics To Eden’s first single Never Take Us Alive, posted 28/03/2009…and to that end also having made acquaintance with at least pàrt of the band’s earlier material – from what was available at the band’s MySpace page, you know) were completely warranted! Great catchy Alternative Rock with a Progressive touch and high adrenaline content, embellished with occassionally lavish synths…what could a music lover want more? Some songs are somewhat “calmer”, but don’t expect any ballads! Oh, strike that…because album closers “Friends And Lovers” and the ensuing instrumental “Lila, The Divine Game” (with its “dominating” piano play) certainly do fall in that category, (the latter albeit in a weird combination with a threatening soundtrack-ish undercurrent)! It’s a pity you can’t get to listen any of those tracks (you know, to get a feel of the more sensitive side of the band on this album) at the band’s MySpace, but I’m sure once the album’s out there you’ll be able to listen to additional samples off the album at amazon.com (then again, you might just as well go out to the record store and have a decent listening session then)! As far as the album goes, to me it’s an essential buy, and I’m now even convinced of the fact that I nééd to get myself the band’s debut album and EP as well (in addition to a retail version of Attics To Eden, because I’m not content with just the download copy we got from CNR, Roadrunner’s Benelux distributor). In other words, food for that “Best Albums Of 2009”-list! News about the band playing in Europe: they’ll be at Germany’s Rock Am Ring and Rock Am Park come June 5 to 7…but later in June they’re hopping onto the Vans Warped Tour…which lasts till late August. So, who knows, perhaps àfter that? 98/100 Tony. |
