Release : (6-track) Mini-CD

South German Metal outfit Breschdleng (based in Backnang and Baden-Württemberg, the first some 25 kms NW from Stuttgart, the latter some 17 kms SW from it, with a good 30 kms between the two) have been around since 1999, but this is the first time I heard about it!

Currently going as a sextet (and I’ve no means of knowing whether its always been that way, or when possible changes occurred)  with two drummers (by the names of Moon and Zanakis, the band completed by singer “Herr Wolf”, guitarists Mauers Max & Gons, and bassist Joe Flanner), the guys have made it a point to sing in their own German (Schwaben district) dialect, which may possibly have set ‘em apart from other outfits in the area, but which has also certainly set back their growth beyond the status of a purely local phenomenon!

Over the years (1999, 2001 & 2006) they’ve done a couple of recordings at the Backnang based Maranis Studio, engineered, mixed & mastered by Victor Maranis, the best of which is now compiled on this mini-album, with the new mastering on two tracks (“Schdeffala” and “Roschdbrodha”). Stylistically, the band describes itself ass “Helmtones against the Magnet”, and that is really self-explanatory when you know your music history somewhat. In essence, the guys bring a Grunge/ Thrash hybrid with influences from Helmet, Deftones, Rage Against the Machine…and Monster Magnet (I ain’t so sure about the last one, even though there IS an occasional psychedelic touch in some of the tracks). Vocals are aggressive for the most part (during the song “Breschdleng” vocals are for the most part spoken word) with lyrics (as mentioned before) in dialectic German (with a lot of “sch”-sounds)!

If you’re not from the Schwaben area, and prefer to recognize what a band sings about (in all honesty, although I have a fair knowledge of the German language, there’s plenty of stuff here I don’t know the meaning of), then Breschdleng will  probably leave you cold, in spite of the truly catchy music they make! If, on the other hand, like me you’re constantly on the look-out for bands with a different take on music, then I warmly recommend you listen to the 4 tracks posted at myspace.com/beschdleng.
