Review : CD

When it all came together at the end of 2003 Deville was born after some years of searching. Through a haze of rock, metal and stoner the members have found a way to do something that feels...
The line-up hasn’t always been the same but when Mr.Åkesson came back from Australia and Mr. Hambitzer gave up soulless pop and joined the inseparable duo Mr.Andy and Señor Marcus, the band was a fact. Since 2004 there have been over 100 gigs in Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Belgium, Austria, France, the Netherlands and Italy. Deville has also appeared in radio and national press in these countries. Daredevil Records released at the end of 2005 a double-feature album with Deville and fuzzy Sergej the Freak from Gothenburg called Sergej the Freak meets Deville In the beginning of 2007. Deville signed to Belgian label Buzzville Records and released the album Come Heavy Sleep same year. (Deville-bio page).

I remember when I received the first album from this Swedish band a few years ago, their stoner was a bit too average for my taste, although it was obvious that they had the technical skills to reach a better level. Hail The Black Sky is Deville’s second for Buzzville and this Swedish foursome makes a good figure between other Buzzvilleartists like Generous Maria, Cabron and Gonzalez. Not every of the eleven tracks is a burner, but due to the varied material here it's an album you can listen to without skipping from one track to the next. Hail The Black Sky changed my opinion about Deville and I can honestly say that they have done a big step forward.

In conclusion, Hail the black Sky is a pretty decent affair from the band without being spectacular.
If you’re not afan of the Swedish stoner rock scene, Deville won’t win you over. If you are, then Hail The Black Sky is a cd you’ll want to pick up.
