Review: CD

In the first part of the nineties Germany housed a Death Metal formation called Interitus Dei, a band that did release a couple of demos. Around that very same period, a Romanian band called Interitus released a demo, called In Search Of Dead God, which gained a lot of positive response in the band’s home country. In 1997, Interitus changed its moniker into Interitus Dei. This was the start of a more professional and creative period, yet at the same time a turbulent one, with the departure of several members, among whom some to concentrate on the successful Heavy / Power formation Magica. Between 1997 and 2002, the band released three full length albums, and 2003 saw the light of a live DVD, yet then things went silent for quite a while.
About one year ago, the band, with a renewed line-up, finished its recording work on In Motion…, which lasts for almost forty five minutes. The whole comes with a fresh and modern sound, fitting well to the melodic and catchy song structures. The mixture of Traditional, Doom and Heavy Metal elements, as well as Goth, Sleaze Rock and folkloristic ones, comes with a sometimes powerful groove, an up-tempo rhythm and varying melodies. However, I’m not overwhelmed at all; on the contrary. The members are skilled performers, but the atmosphere is too main stream, the compositions too common, the sound too poppy… The album gets stronger towards the end, and honouring Comandante Che Guevara can’t be that bad, can it?
