Slip Of The Tongue follows the formula established on most commercially successful album to date Whitesnake, which rocketed to No. 2 on the Billboard album chart. It's a formula that lacks the chemistry created on the band's first albums, nothing but radio ready corporate rock bull$$$hit.  However, these two releases cemented the band's position in the vanguard of bubblegum metal , especially in USA. You can see what David Coverdale was aiming for right from the opening track. Unfortunately, with the exception of the title track there's nothing on Slip Of The Tongue  that really stands out from the rest of the crowd. You would be shocked by how commercial a lot of these songs really sound. It is perhaps the peak of the Whitesnake' recording plateau studio-wise. It's too bad Steve Vai who replaced John Sykes, for the most part sounds uninterested in this album.

If you like old school Whitesnake, avoid this, but if you like mainstream hairspray hard cock rock and Steve Vai’s masturbating axe machine, Slip Of The Tongue is as good as any other album out there. The Bonus DVD features 2 previously unavailable tracks from their sold out 1990 headline appearance at the Monsters Of Rock Festival, Castle Donnington. Presented in a digipak picture sleeve complete with a 24-page booklet containing brand new sleevenotes written by David Coverdale, rare & unpublished photos and archive memorabilia
