Review : CD

Obviously inspired by Wim Mertens and Philip Glass, as well as Glenn Branca, the post rock of Rachel, Red Sparowes and Mono, lead by James Alexander (viola, keys, percussion) Chris Hacksite (guitars), Brian Purington (guitars), Chris Stelly (drums) and Scott Telles (bass), My Education have produced a very impressive and inventive imaginative movie score for FW Murnau’s 1927 silent film Sunrise. One beautiful movie score divided into 7 parts, where the guitars and viola appear to be the main provider of themes and passages while vibraphone, French horn and cello outline the finer details The album constantly surprises, alternating sweeping haunting serene melodies (“Sunset” and “Lust”], with more full on, intense post rock (“City woman”, “Oars”). Most of the pieces last for around seven minutes, building up repetitive riffs and structures to increase levels of aggression.

Although the music is very sad in most part's it is very compelling, moving and powerful.
