The instrumental band Noetics is an Austrian band that has a surprisingly delicious sound that is reminiscient of quite a few bands on the the infamous and extincted UK label Delerium Records. Basing their sound on a variety of psych, downbeat, dub, jazz and drum & bass, Noetics is a fine example of how this music can be when done right..

The album is a far-reaching and widespread affair that covers many stylistic bases throughout, from the didgiridoo ambient passages of "Disintegrate" ringing, exotic guitar and rastafari songs like "Schinkenwurst Dub" or "Mahdresher" . The band utilizes a wide array of instruments from keyboard and synth washes to horns to the occasional Ribot-like guitar to a tom foolery of percussion to create a vast paradigm of moods and atmospheres. Their more exotic adventures remind one of Olle Lukkoye and Korai Orom on "Vibrant hydrant” and “Der heikle mann” or of Ozric’s dub period.

Delayed Back is a dream record for those who want to hear a good grroooovvvy record that is not caught up in either forced morosity or cliche sounds. Recommended
