Band : Sahara Surfers Melding big fuzz hooks and driving rock rhythms reminiscent of Kyuss, Dozer, Fu Manchu and Unida with pinches of more indie styles like A Perfect Circle popping up every now and then, and a female vocalist who pours the proper emotion into each track without sounding contrived are just a few of the positive sides. So monstertruck grooves are the order of the day here and there are plenty for the stoner rock aficionado to munch on with highlights as there are the road burners “8.12” and “ Propeller”, the Colour Haze -like “ Colour jam” ” and the blazing rifffest feast of “Gas”. Although the stoner rock influenced wave, that has been growing lately does not particularly interest me, because lack of originality, this Austrian band does show some skill on their first CD, enough to keep me focussed on, as 6 songs flow reasonably well. It's not the most varied or demanding style, but these guys and 1 doll rip it up with conviction. 85/100 Cosmicmasseur. |
