Band : Anneke van Giersbergen & Agua de Annique Anneke van Giersbergen is the former singer of the Dutch metal band The Gathering. After thirteen years in the metal scene, the singer with the crystal-clear female vocals left the band in 2007 and pursued a solo career with a different musical angle. She started the new project Agua de Annique and released an album with atmospheric guitar pop, “Air” in 2007. With this album out, Anneke toured not only in the Netherlands, but also in the rest of Europe and she even did a Latin-American tour. In the beginning of 2009, “Pure Air”, an acoustic album with some songs of the album “Air” and also a couple of covers, like for instance Alanis Morrissette’s “Ironic”, Within Temptation’s “Somewhere” and Frankie Goes To Hollywood’s “The Power Of Love” came out.
Also in 2009, Anneke collaborated with Devin Townsend on his album “Addicted” (2009) and sang on most songs on it.
For her new album, “In Your Room”, which is even more accessible than “Air” and “Pure Air”, Devin Townsend returned the favour and wrote the song “Just Fine”.
For fans of The Gathering, it is clear that Anneke has more ethereal pop influences to offer on her solo efforts instead of the rock and metal sound we were used to from The Gathering. Some people will love it, some other people won’t.“In Your Room” contains 12 songs and has a playing time of 42 minutes. Highlights of the album are “Hey Okay!”, “The World”, “Sunny Side Up”, “Physical”, the above-mentioned “Just Fine” (by far the best track on the album) and “Adore”. 70/100 Erik. |
