On the strength of the first 6-track CDEP (read review 11.12.2008) from a year ago I knew this debut full length was going to be a monster. And I was right.. “Mountain” opens the set on a high siren note with full blown in-yer-face 70s hard organ rock,a provocative track with a stirring groove and a guitar/organ rhythm mixture that blends surprisingly well together. “Medecine” is a slower blues, lyrically driven number with moaning keyboards and vocals that try to passionately embellish the story. On “Don’t you go up the sky” more Deep Purple-like keyboard by Robin Piso winds its way in there, forming a growing effect with the enthusiastic drum work of Luka van de Poel. “Wicked moon” is centered around a swift pace and a vocal-dominated chorus. Great vocal harmonies, coupled with terrific swirling guitars and the sound of the heartfelt Rhodes piano make “Birth of the ninth sun” one spine-chilling tune The influences of blues and organ driven harder rock are treated in a psychedelic manner on the next two songs “Parloscope” and “Fire fills the sky” , and the result should please the fans of The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, Cream and Lucifer’s Friend. Pablo van de Poel is a passionate guitarist and clearly influenced by David Gilmour, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Ritchie Blackmore and John Mayal; so melody and soul prime. A fierce sax solo is blasting like a shower of falling stars on “Red sparks of the morning dusk”. The lengthy epic “Silver lovemachine” has, I love to say it, “Set the controlls for the heart of the sun” written all over it;The music plows along for 10 minutes with a blend of a spacey stoner vibe, keyboard laden heavy haunting rock. A great pounding jam track with ripping hard rock guitar leads and mile high intensity.

The album is packed with melodic passages, frenzied fuzz guitar workouts, not to mention acid-trip induced lyrical and musical content. But overall, the lush and wide open production by Rob Van Spauwen and Dewolff, the ability for the somewhat jam-oriented songs to coalesce into incredibly moving and mature pieces, and the excellent performances from the entire Dutch cast make Strange Fruits And Undiscovered Plants a treasure to behold.
