This album took an incredible amount of time to get off the desc of our editor-in-chief. Somehow its processing was delayed time and again, but eventually nothing could prevent The Lion & The Cheetah from landing in someone’s to-do box. It so happens, it was mine, because being affiliated to Funtime, the Chief thought the music on it might fall under the Punk Rock category.

Big mistake (the idea about Dick Black’s musical direction), because the trio of singer/ guitarist Bernando, bassist/ backing singer DJ Borsie, and drummer Waco (who hail from Mechelen and Leuven) play a type of Power Pop which is closer to Roots and Garage Rock, than to Punk. They’ve been moving around venues everywhere in Belgium for a couple of years now, playing over a hundred shows and even managing to get support slots with the likes of The Kids, Zornik, Mitskov, Janez Dedt, Freaky Age, The Sedan Vault, and more.

Finding it became about time for them to put down some of their songs on a music carrier for people to buy, the trio entered The Sugarbeat Studio in Bunsbeek with producer Jimmy Turbo (known from previous collaborations with the likes of PN, Homer, Anton Walgrave, Timesbold, and more) to record no less than 14 tracks, 4 of which are placed at myspace.com/dickblack666 for you to enjoy and get acquainted with the band’s material. Cut down to basics line-up wize, the songs are simple in build, and in their simplicity quite catchy! But although I can imagine quite a few bikers, Hard Rockers, and lovers of other kinds of music nodding their heads in unison during a surprize DB show, the thing I personally feel lacks this band, is a really good lead singer! It’s a good thing the current one and the backing singer have a good synergy, because otherwize…
