Band : Reo Speedwagon The old Speedwagon boys are still active, and have released a new CD. To say I was curious is an understatement. But all hopes were quickly shattered. The first song opens well, numbers two, three and four equally sound good. But then it goes downhill. Gone are the days of great rock ballads a.k.a. “Keep on Loving you”. Instead the songs babble along. There’s even a song on the album that immediately brought a reminiscence to a Joe Jackson song – a great artist, but not immediately someone you’d associate with rock music... I had a copy of the European edition, which features 4 bonus tracks, acoustic versions of some of their old songs. Interesting to hear such well known songs in another version. It’s a pity this album didn’t turn out a bit heavier, cause in their heydays I really liked them, and, even though he’s older now than in their glory days, the voice of Kevin Cronin still sounds good. 50/100 Erik Morren. |
