Band : Angrepp Angrepp’s Warfare has an intense murderous quality to it. As it quickly becomes evident, this album is full of speedy and powerful black/thrash metal with an apparent clear direction of its own. The style is not exactly the most creative, but the riffing is quite satisfying and the band sound more than eager enough.. The songs on Warfare tend to be in the three-to-four minute range, but sound complete nevertheless. “Five Horned Formation” and “For Now I Have Risen” are nice demonstrations of pure high-speed frenzy, and tracks like “Dead And Destroyed”, “Dictator” and “Rape, Kill And Rock n’ Roll” are pretty cool pieces no matter what, short but vivid bursts of nasty spirit. The rasp and gravely vocals are thoroughly satisfying, the inclusion of guitar solos do nothing but propel the music’s interest, and the production marries the raw with the coherent. But perhaps the biggest success is how much the songs rape, kill as well as rock n’ roll. Black Metal framework to be sure, but the music is arranged in a fashion that makes them on a song level appealing with driving thrashing grooves and engaging punk riffs. The playing and song-writing is strangely mature, but never loses its primitive charm (Violent Force/ Slaughter/ Satyricon/ Dead Head). I found myself enjoying this album more than I thought I would, that's always a plus. It's not groundbreaking in the least little bit, but it is well mixed and mastered by Dan Swano, well played and pretty well written, too. Why bother with music theory and originality when you can just raise your fist in the air in total five horned worship? The up-tempo feel definitely brings an evil grin to your face. 85/100 Cosmicmasseur. |
