BugGirl could not have chosen a more fitting title for their album. Dirt In The Skirt is one of those releases that can make L7 seem slow and Motorhead downright progressive in comparison. The band's sound is unrefined and unpretentious, and there is almost a rushed feel to it. There is such a frantic tempo on every song that it appears they could have just utilized one and the same drum track for the whole album. Complete with sleaze vocals and guitar solos that often appear like careless splashes at best, vocalist/ guitarist Amber Spence and brother/ drummer/ backing vocalist Clinton Spence’s style can sometimes remind you of Nashville Pussy, but Dirt In The Skirt lacks a definite edge and some additional dirt in the skirt that Blaine Cartwright & Co have plenty. In small portions an album like this can still be fairly entertaining, but in the long run it can turn out quite repetitive if not played sparingly.
