Darn, the story about this band’s formation is too incredible, to alter the words put down in the biography, so here it is: “The story began at Copenhagen Airport, where the group of seeasoned musicians met up to head for a small Greek island. Two weeks of cover concerts lay ahead of them and only a few of them even knew each other. The set-list was put together high above the clouds and Rock legends like AC/DC and Led Zeppelin naturally formed the centre of inspirations. The casual and improvised style of the concerts seemed to strike a chord with the band members, who had expected little but found themselves having more than a blast. Audiences seemed to dig the vibe as well. So much so, that a few days into the tour a group of journalists from the biggest radio station in Athens flew in to see and hear that beast that had turned the island on its end.”

Those two weeks passed, the musicians involved (singer/ guitarist Thomas Klovn Carlsen, lead  guitarist Morten Lundsgaard, bassist Nikolaj Storr, and drummer Jakob Roenlov) couldn’t help but want to continue the vibe, this time with songs of their own. A first recording session was abruptly put to a halt, when the studio in the Nordvest district of Copenhagen burned down. Luckily, the 4 songs the band had recorded with Sören Andersen were salvaged from the flames. Further recordings happened at neary Medley Studios, in an abandoned shipyard, and in a small Swedish cottage.

Musically, the band plays a riff-based mixture of Bluesey Hard Rock, Grunge, and Classic Rock, which the band dubbed “Massive Groovy Retro Riff Rock”, and it’s fair to say that, beyond the ghosts of the already mentionned inspirational bands, remeniscences of The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, John Lee Hooker, Van Halen, Aerosmith, Free, and other Classic Rock & Blues heroes (see list posted at the band’s MySpace page) occasionally pass by…while at the same time this band has a signature of its own, mainly thanks to the incredible voice of the lead singer! No surprise then, that the band got full support of the meedia when the album was released in Denmark in Autumn of last year. No surprise either, that the band exited audiences throughout Europe playing support to Deep Purple, nor that Karma Cowboys was hand-picked by Swedish Heavy Rock act Mustasch for their Danish tour in February 2010. The band recently made big news in Denmark, playing 6 shows within a 12-hour period…the event resulting in the band being featured in such major media as daily newspaper Politiken’s online edition (over 100,000 daily viewers), Danish National Radio’s website (over 50,000 daily users), and getting an interview printed in free national newspaper metroXpress (over 660,000 daily readers).

In other words, these guys have made an impression on the Danish market. Find out what the buzz is about by listening to the three songs (the first two of which already made it to singles in 2009) posted at myspacce.com/karmacowboys. As far as I’m concerned, I’ve found a new favourite band. Will have to put Shake It! Into my year-lists retro-actively though, as the album is really a 2009 release!
