Band : Skill In Veins Skill In Veins - what a strange name to go by and how in heaven's name did they come up with that. But besides the strange name, what you've got here is a real gem. It's good hard rock, with bluesy undertones. Turns out all songs were written by Andrea "Andream" Lanza, a young Italian guy. You can definitely say that he knows his classics, because what you hear has influences from many other groups. To name but a few : Guns N'Roses, Aerosmith, Skid Row. As a matter of fact these were some of the groups that were present in the record collection of Andrea's brother. Besides these groups, Andrea also listened and was inspired by different guitar players, Jimmy Page and Slash, to name but two of them, for their bluesy way of playing, but also Eddie Van Halen or Yngwie Malmsteen for their technical prowess, and the list of other guitarists that had some influence on him goes on and on. So after writing these songs, Andrea approached Alessandro Del Vecchio (Edge Of Forever, Eden's Curse) to have his songs produced in a professional way. With the aid of Alessandro a band was formed, consisting of Francesco Jovino (U.D.O.) on drums, Nik Mazzucconi (Edge Of Forever, Moonstone Project) on bass and finally Gabriele Gozzi (Markonee) on vocals. To say that this is a little gem is even underrated. If this had been written and played by Guns N'Roses instead of their latest album "Chinese Democracy" it would have meant an instant comeback by Guns N'Roses. If you thought Gabriele was a good singer judging on his performances in Markonee, just listen to this CD and you'll be astonished. This record has it all, catchy songs, thundering guitar riffs, smashing melodies, bluesy undertones..... So far I consider this one of the best albums to be released this year. How sad that this gem will probably go by unnoticed by the great public. 98/100 Erik Morren. |
