Review: MCD
The Australian act Hunters Moon, with (current and former) members of e.g. Nocturnal Graves and Denouncement Pyre – the latter did recently record a new album too, called World Cremation, which will also be released through the Australian label Hells Headbangers (review will be available very soon on Concreteweb, of course) – didn’t release anything ‘important’ up till now. There was a demo tape in 2006, which I, unfortunately, didn’t get (yet), so it makes this mini-album (twenty one minutes) the first official studio recording. And I do really prey to my Gods: don’t let it be the last one!
The Serpents Lust brings epic and pounding Black Metal in the vein of, especially, Bathory’s Blood Fire Death, mixed with elements from Bathory’s earliest years (Bathory, The Return …, and Under The Sign …), as well as the Hammerheart-era, and even the Octogon / Requiem-period. Hail, hail, hail! Also (early) Primordial, Morrigan and Falkenbach are names that come to mind.
And… the quality is extremely high too! This goes for both the performance, as well as the sound, which is raw and unpolished. In this band’s case the ‘sounding-just-like’-attitude is neglectable completely. Or: hail to the Ancient Cult!
93/100
