Although this album only gets a July 1st release, it was already out in North-American stores from April 14, and I already had a download copy in my possession since the middle of March. Before that month was over, I copied it down to my mp3-player…meaning I’ve been able to give the album occasional listening sessions since! You might argue that’s why I’m rating the album so liberally, but in truth I’ve always been somewhat of a fan of RevCo, as they started calling themselves since the 2004 reformation.

As you know from my reviews of earlier RevCo material (2007’s Cocktail Mixx remixes album and 2008’s Sexo Olympico – no, I didn’t do the Sex-O-Mixxx-O remix album…that one was left to collegue  Jeroen due to my over-loaded reviewing schedule at the time – respectively posted 25/03/2007, 21/09/2008, and 25/09/2009 for the review by the collegue) RevCo today is almost completely renewed, and features singer Josh Bradford, guitarist Sin Quirin, and keyboadist Clayton Warbeck, with Jourgensen only coming in in the studio for production duties, additional keyboards, programming, and backing vocals (I suppose he’ll occasionally throw in some song ideas as well though). For the 2009 live shows, the “new” guys recruited the help of bassist Murv Douglas, but I ain’t sure what’s become of him since!

Quite frankly, I lóve what the new guys do, both musically (I’m a sucker for the band’s alternating of sharp guitars with great synth/ keyboards sounds) and lyrically (just like on the 2007 album, there isn’t óne song on the track-list which is any less ludicrous than the other). Sure, some of the songs are even more sexually explicit than the other, even occasionally somewhat over-the-top tongue-in-cheek (check “Dykes”, “Poke-A-Hot-Ass” for good measure, or the band’s version of Rap group 2 Live Crew’s 1989 hit song “Me So Horny”), but it’s all done with a serious portion of humour (like using German spoken parts in a song called “Juice”) and mockery of self (check “Filthy Señoritas” , “Piss Army”, “Fuck the Money”, and “Air Traffic Control”). Ooh…before I forget, in the studio the band got help from guests including Sammy D’Ambruoso (additional drum programming), Mark Twaithe (known from… The Mission, Tricky, Peter Murphy, New Disease, Spear Of Destiny, theater Of Hate, Mob Research, National Velvet, and a series of guest performances, among which earlier collaborations with Jourgensen and RevCo…plays extra guitar on “Filthy Señoritas”) and background singer IsaMartinez (already contributed Spanish vocals to the song “Robo Banditos” on the previous RevCo album). In total, the new album has 11 songs (one, as normal for this band, a remix of one of the songs – in this case the “Me So Horny” track) for a total length of almost 54 delightful minutes!

Can’t understand why that difference with the release dates though! At any rate, you can enjoy a full-length version of the album’s opening song “Trojan Horse” and samples of all the other songs, except for “Me So Horny” (both versions) at myspace.com/revoltingcocks. But do you really nééd to have a pre-listen to knów that a new RevCo can only mean you need to get yer bum over to the record store to buy the band’s new album? They nééd the money, you know!? Not to buy themselves 24-hour sex, but rather to pay off the groupies to go away (hahah, check lyrics to “Fuck The Money”!)…

98/100
