Band: Vomitor The Australian formation Vomitor, with current or former members of, for example, Bestial Warlust, Grippiud, Gospel Of The Horns and Spear Of Longinus, strikes back after eight years with their third studio album, Devils Poison, after the 2002-recordings Neutron Hammer (MCD) and Bleeding The Priest (full length). And even though eight years are in between, this new record goes on in the vein of these first releases. That is a positive element, because it means nasty and dirty Death Metal superiority with a Thrash / Black-edge. The tracks are very underground-oriented, rather primitive, and the whole exhales a purest old style atmosphere, era late eighties. The tempo varies from very slow over up-tempo to, mostly, pretty fast, including some lightning-fast explosions, and the song structures are uncomplicated yet intelligent enough to convince and wonder. Sometimes it feels like a gigantic rusty spoon with wasabi and Tabasco drilled in your ass, tasteful and flavouring yet spicy and whipping up. Many guitar parts remind me to Nocturnus and early Morbid Angel, but bands as Deicide, Slaughter Lord, Slayer, Bathory and Angelcorpse have been of influence too. No, the album doesn’t renew, nor is it a progressive or ultra-varying recording either. The whole just sounds filthy, raw and rough, with sharp edges and a smell of decomposition. Lovely, isn’t it? 88/100 Ivan Tibos. |
