Band : Zodiac Mindwarp & The Love Reaction This has been a long time: Zodiac Mindwarp & The Love Reaction. Back in the days they scored two cult hits with "Back Seat Education" and "Prime Mover". Mindwarp was a band that brought us sleazy glam rock but looked like real dudes instead of going for the feminine touch like other bands did at that time. The real big breakthrough never came but it sounded great, great enough to get an invitation by Alice Cooper. He wanted frontman Zodiac, aka Mark Manning, to sing with him on "Feed My Frankenstein". Now, many years later, Mark thought is was about time to kick out the jams once again. This is the result: We Are Volsung. Not much has changed. Still dirty rock although the sleazy part has been switched to something that reminds us of some Swedish garage rock bands of the moment. The record starts off very nicely with "Stark Von Oben" and the rocking title track. Just after only one spin the 2 songs stick and that’s what we need. Too bad it’s not something that will happen to you with the rest of the tracks. We Are Volsung is just a fun album to listen to. Nothing more nothing less. The change for this one to end up in our 2010 list is rather small. But if we would be planning a party soon you can bet this cd will be there in the player to get the party going. 73/100 Stef Maes. |
