Band: The Peacocks Swiss Retro Punk Rock merchants The Peacocks (they add a serious pinch of Rockabilly to their music, including the use of stand-up bass) took a little more than 2 ½ years to get a follow-up full-length out to Touch And Go (review, with nice history-of-the-band…up to that moment, posted 19/08/2007). Granted, the release of mini-album Gimme More (subtitled The Best Of The Rest & Leftovers – in fact a mini-album with the band’s normal standards of material, written for the Touch And Go sessions) in Spring 2008 allowed me to give a short update (review posted 11/05/2008). Since then, the band’s been all around the globe again, touring their asses off, and generally not updating their websites (thepeacocks.ch and myspave.com/itstimeforthepeacocks) too much. Early January last year, the band posted some news, announcing that some 10 new great had already been written, and that the band was hoping to enter studio in February with a possible release of the album by June or so! What happened in between? I dunno…probably there’s been more opportunities to tour…and at any rate here IS the new album at last! In the now known formula (if you’ve never heard The Peacocks before and are a fan of Punk flavoured Rockabilly, I urge you to check out the music posted at the band’s MySpace page) the Swiss trio churns out 15 tracks in a 40-minute listening session, fit to be put on vinyl without problems. In fact, the vinyl version even holds a bonus with exclusive track “Fake Rockabilly Song”. Being behind on the reviewing schedule, I can tell you that the band already played a couple of shows in their home country and the South of Germany support of the album…and have already a short UK tour under their belt. If I’m not mistaken they even passed through Antwerp days before this review was posted…and this as part of the band’s first leg of a new European tour (to finish end of April on the Iberian Island – that’s Spain & Portugal, in case you didn’t know). During May the band will be doing (not tour related) independent shows, and then the Summer festival season starts (for dates & places where the boys will be, again check either the band’s MySpace or own website). 83/100 Tony. |
