Band : Sons Of Liberty Sons Of Lberty is a new project by no other than Mr. Jon Schaffer whom you all probably know from Iced Earth. You clearly hear his master’s touch in this album, Sons Of Liberty sounds less trashy than Iced Earth sometimes does, but on this album he has opted for a more rock-metal approach. The name of the band was taken from a secret organization, formed by some United States’ patriots in 1765, prior to the American Revolution, whose aim it was to resist the tyranny that the colonists were subjected to by Great-Britain. And just like this secret organization, this album hopes to incite to action, action against the overpowering influence some organizations or institutes have, to name but one : the financial institutes, who were the main instigator of the economical crisis we are or were having. If you would like to have more information, just go to the Sons Of Liberty website. However, this point of view is very ‘American’ in its approach, do bear in mind that Jon Schaffer is rather patriotic. We, as Europeans, are normally better informed and more skeptical than our US counterparts. All nine songs are sung by Mr. Schaffer himself, and the lyrics, although maybe a bit to patriotic, are very good. What’s also nice is that interwoven in the songs you get some samples from speeches by famous people (Bush, Obama, Abraham Lincoln, I even heard some Adolf Hitler). The songs are good, with a build-up to the chorus, and Jon’s vocal performance is outstanding, powerful, yet not too powerful. Normally you should also be able to get a full download of the album for free at (www.) sons-of-liberty.net. 90/100 Erik Morren. |
