The Shiver is a female fronted metal act hailing from Italy. Yes, the home country of one of the leading female metal acts, called Lacuna Coil. The fact that they’re also from Italy must be the only similarity between these two bands. First of all, The Shiver has only been active for five years now, as the band was formed in 2005. It took them three years, in 2008, before they could release their debut album, called Inside.

Further on, you can clearly hear the influences of the American rock/nu-metal band Evanescence with Amy Lee on vocals. It is so easy to notice this that you really start disliking the band while listening to them on their latest release, A New Horizon. Whereas “Empty People Empty Words” and “The Fragile Sound” are the most interesting songs on the album, the rest is pure bullocks. Especially in “Crushing Down” and “Through This Cold Winter” you can clearly hear the copy-paste of The Shiver with Evanescence. Finally I’m afraid to say that I have my strongest doubts about the vocal capacities of singer Faith on most of the songs. Her voice sounds very weak in comparison to most other female vocalists. Luckily this gets a bit better from “Leech And Flower” on. This song, which already is the seventh song on the album, is the first song in which you can hear a (small) guitar solo.

Altogether, this is a very poor attempt of a Roadrunner act. The Shiver should really start listening to their music and have a face of their own to survive in the crazy world of metallic music.
