CD REVIEW Cardiac Arrest

Band: Cardiac Arrest
Title: Haven For The Insane
Label: Ibex Moon Records
Distribution: /
Release date: Summer 2010
Review: CD

Originally formed in 1997 as a duo, Cardiac Arrest became a ‘serious’ band when the new millennium started, searching for stability. Unfortunately it didn’t work out that well back then – many line-up changes followed, nothing important got recorded, and the members did spent more time with diverse side-projects. Until the year 2004. Until the recording and release of the demo-MCD Heart Stopping Dead Rot. Until the increase success of their existence.

A first full length, Morgue Mutilations, was done in 2006 (Redrum Records), a second one, Cadaverous Presence (Epitomite Productions), was spawned onto Earth in 2008, and both of them were received with open arms on every graveyard. The band shared the stage with Acheron, Incantation, Napalm Death, Impaled, Vital Remains and many other ‘huge’ names, and they were able to perform on several of the biggest Metal-festivals in the US. During Winter ’08-’09, Cardiac Arrest entered the Polymorph Studio (again), recording their third full length (42:26), and after signing to Ibex Moon (the great upcoming Death Metal label by Incantation’s John McEntee) earlier this year, this rotted release now becomes a fact.

Haven For The Insane is prehistorically gigantic! The album brings ultra-heavy and massive Death Metal with a purest Old School spirit, easily beating the world-wide scene. The speed (!) on Haven … varies from up-tempo to hammering, yet in general this album is grinding and blasting. And everything fits! The compositions are mature and professional and the performance is above average. It is incredible, the feeling I get when listening to this terrifying, bloody, murderous release. And the sound stands as a concrete web (???): unbreakable and indestructible, yet breaking and destructive at the same time.

Crushing and pulverising Grind / Death for fans of the American, English and Swedish old school scene!

80/100
