Band: General Chaos General Chaos are a new band with very experienced members: former Dew-Scented guitar players Flo Müller and Hendrik Bache (formerly also in Dormant Misery or Protector), shouter Ercument Kasalar (of Tephra-fame), and Such A Surge / Revolver-members Antek (d) and Henrik Schwaninger (b). The quintet recorded the debut full length (Watch General Chaos At The) Calamity Circus, which lasts for about thirty two minutes, at Cologne’s Maarweg Studio 2, and the whole was mastered in France, at Black Box Studios. The latter - and this might interest some - is known for using the same mixing console as the first Rambo-soundtrack. The core of General Chaos’ music is to pay tribute to the protagonists of extreme music. As from opening song Speech on, this gets evident. The band mixes elements from different bulldozer genres, among which Thrash and Death Metal, Death Rock, Hardcore and Groove. And yes, the band even implements elements from (traditional) eighties (Hard) Rock and Metal. Every track comes with a crusty, dirty sound, increasing the heaviness even more, and the sludgy riffs and ragging rhythm section have not been created this way to let you think about milk and cookies.
If you take (some of) the best elements from Entombed, High On Fire, Exhorder, Sepultura, Engine Of Pain, Pantera, Lair Of The Minotaur or Motörhead, then you come close to the pounding definition of what Calamity Circus stands for. Oh yes, to end this album with a track like Black As Disease: thanksssallot! 75/100 Ivan Tibos. |
