Band : Angel House Angel House come from Birmingham, a city that has produced numerous well known rock and heavy metal bands... to name just two of them : Black Sabbath or Magnum. And now there is Angel House. Their music goes back to the eighties NWOBHM, think Tygers Of Pan Tang, Saxon,... This is already their second album, which just as the first album World On Fire was produced by Mark Stuart, known for his work with Magnum. The band consists of only three members, the brothers Pete and Phil Easthope and Simon Cooper. Pete takes care of the vocals and the guitar, whereas Phil plays bass and also does some vocals. that leaves just Simon who's responsible for drums and percussion. Now when i mentioned that their style goes back to the eighties NWOBHM, this means that they occasionally venture into blues territory, but also can play some heavy riffs. Sadly enough I think their music sounds a bit dated. On top of that the singing of Pete also has it's limits. It's not bad, and his voice is perfectly suited for this kind of music, but it does not really get to me. Highlight on this album is the final song "When The Water Gets Too High", a song that gradually builds op to a grand finale, and has the added bonus of a nice violin arrangement. 65/100 Erik Morren. |
