Band : Keel After reviewing the re-issue of Keel's 80's masterpiece The Right To Rock I was surprised how this new album would turn out. After all here's a band of which you hadn't heard of the last 10 years. The line-up of the band is exactly the same as in the eighties, with the exception of bass player Kenny Chaisson.
To say I was surprised is an understatement. Just like some good wines, who grow better when they mature, so has Ron Keel's voice. Gone are the very high screams.
The sound has also improved drastically. Gone is the echo on the vocals, and the guitars sound much crispier than on their previous albums. Whereas on "The Right To Rock" the stadion track prevailed, there's more diversity on this new album. Their songwriting abilities have definitely also reached higher standards.
It has to be said that this will probably not be an album that rates in my top 100 of all times, but still after all these years it's a great effort. Just listen to "Hit The Ground Running" or "Come Hell Or High Water" and you'll understand what I mean. If you liked your eighties bands like Twister Sister, Quiet Riot and Keel, you should give this a try. 80's music in a more modern jacket and with far better production and sound. 92/100 Erik Morren. |
