The Lost Prophets were formed in 1997 in the town of Pontypridd, UK. They were founded by vocalist Ian Watkins, bassist (later guitarist) Mike Lewis, drummer Mike Chiplin and guitarist Lee Gaze, they were originally a side-project of a hardcore punk band called Public Disturbance and before they were known in their present name, they called themselves  The Bum Mules and played gigs and venues across all of Wales.

Since their formation, the band has released four studio albums and three EPs, most recently releasing The Betrayed. The band used to be heavy and more into metal, but one day they decided that they wanted to stop being like that and went to make more “happier” music. Although they lost a lot of fans, it was a well placed commercial move and the album then released (Liberation Transmission) got a lot of attention. When I first heard their new album (The Betrayed), it started of with a punch. It seemed that they went back to their heavy post hardcore roots. But before I could enjoy any of it, they proved me wrong and everything changed in “commercial happy indie pop” with lyrics like “La la lalala”. Although I’m not a fan of their more recent work, the album isn’t that bad but has a good production quality and feels like they worked on it.

Still the album feels like it isn’t finished and will disappoint a lot of people, maybe that’s why they called it The Betrayed.
