Band : Aeon Zen Aeon Zen actually started some years ago, when the only permanent member - and founder - of the band, Rich Hinks, a Cambridge UK based multi-instrumentalist influenced by prog rock and metal started writing some songs. Things evolved from 2006 on, when, together with his friends some of these compositions reworked, and new ones were being added to create the Aon Zen sound. After being signed by Time Divide Records Ltd Rich, supported by his friend Lloyd on drums, started recording and producing this first album. They were greatly aided by the support from the record company, and thus were able to approach some well respected guest vocalists (Nils K. Rue of Pagan's Mind, Andi Kravljaca of Silent Call (ex Seventh Wonder), Andreas Novak of Mind's Eye and Elyes Bouchoucha of Myrath). For a guy who penned his first songs at the age of 17, this has become a fantastic album, which might appeal to metal fans, as well as to progressive rock fans, since it is not only very diverse by making use of different vocalists, who put their own stamp on the songs, but also since musically there is melancholy, as well as nostalgic, but also some heavy, hook-laden songs. Actually Rich is writing material for a second album, and has also put together a live band. Great job for a first release. Absolutely recommended. 90/100 Erik Morren |
