Highlighted by striking artwork by Greg Vezon, Ausserweltis an excellent addition to the catalog of Conspiracy Records, the perfect home for Year Of No Light. The album is divided into four long songs for a total of 48 minutes.

On the tracks “Persephone (enna)”, “Persephone (core)”, “Hierophante” and “Abbesse”’  Pierre Anouilh (guitar), Jérôme Alban (guitar, keyboard),Johan Sebenne (bass, electronics), Bertrand Sebenne (drums, keyboard), Shiran Kaidine (guitar, vocals) and Mathieu Mégemont (drums, electronics)lay down a wicked, corroded chugging haunting sound that will have you thinking Yob, Wolves In The Throneroom, and Neurosis with the experimental & cinematic feel of Godspeed You Black Emperor and Sunno added in. employing oceans of semi-distorted guitars with that familiar saddened, apocalyptic vibe The builds and eventual crescendos are well rendered with suitably ambient and tasteful pacing like in Pelican and Mono tend to explode with a controlled yet volatile peak. The music usually starts calm and quiet, and logically turns loud and noisy, only to turn calm again, like a constant cycle.  Not one part of this album could be described as mellow, since even the quieter passages contribute to a dark and epic vibe. Ausserwelttakes on the hue of a Eraserhead soundtrack; psychedelic drones, resonant feedbacks and electronic effects merging into a potent nightmare horror experience and it won't let you go until the dark ambient outro fades into nothingness.

This is essential material for fans into the lords of ausserwelt like Isis, Earth, Neurosis, Pelican, Explosions In The Sky, Khong,...
