Poland is working really hard the last decade to earn a place in the metal circuit. Think of bands such as Behemoth, Decapitated, Riverside, … All of these bands are pure metal bands: death metal, progressive metal, … Now a band called Coma is trying to expand the Polish music circle by adding rock music to it.

With their third studio album, Excess, they really want to provoke an international breakthrough. Not only musically, but even more lyrically and vocally as their two previous albums were completely sung in their mother tongue. For this album, they decided to change this and provide us with English lyrics. At least, now we can understand what Coma sings about.
The main influence of this band is Pearl Jam, this can be deduced very quickly, but also influences going from Velvet Revolver to Alter Bridge come to mind, which definitely is the case in the second song on the album, called "Transfusion". In most of the songs you really get the impression that the guitarists are afraid of doing something unique. We have to wait until "T.B.T.R." to be surprised by the musical quality of Coma. This is the best song on Excess and has a great guitar solo to add to it. Altogether, this is a very good rock album, but the band misses a face of its own to be easily identified between all the other rock acts around.

For the next album, they should remove the safety catch while writing new songs.
