Kauan doesn't qualify as metal in my opinion, so don't expect any. Describing Kauan’s music is a little difficult since there are very few comparisons to draw. It is hauntingly beautiful music that focuses on mood and atmosphere more than anything else. The approach is tentative and subtle, slow and mellow from start to finish. “Ommeltu Polku” at a mere 4.57 minutes opens the album, an comparatively simple guitar trick waters away, but instead of the usual big bang one’s come to expect, the music actually floats into a rather minimalist groove There is ambient sound of waves crashing too. All of the songs actually receive the same treatment. The second song Valveuni enters slowly on a sleepwalking riff backed by a meandering piano and synth. The piano and violin playing are somber; maybe this is why it reminds me of My Dying Bride and Anathema without the doom. While the other three songs vary enough that you can tell them apart, there's no big stylistic leaps here.

It is very snoozing the way this music flows. I haven't been presented with too many albums from Russia, but if there as good as Aava Tuulen Maa, I have some catching up to do. The 20-page booklet is illustrated with watercolour paints adding new strokes to the musical mood of the album.
