Band : Paradise 9 Paradise 9 tripped out psychedelic bliss of guitar riffs and punky drum beats and vocals are captured in their brand new release of Nothing For Tomorrow. Having released their debut Showtime in 1999 (read review 21/07/2009), the band continue their rather innovative approach to space rock on this 4-tr CDEP with new unbridled passion and energy. The 4 songs are well written pieces, which makes me feel inclined to forgive the band for occasional The Clash/The Levellers-isms. The title track and “Broken promises” are more up tempo songs driven by spacey guitars. Apart from the vocals, these could be Hawkwind-songs. "Crystalized moments” is a lighter moment which shows that band leader Gregg McKella really is a good songwriter, featuring phased effects and fantastic Gilmour-like guitarsolos . Some really nice sounds here. “Points of view” is a standout track that takes the best of delerium 90's psychedelia and puts it into a fresh context. Clarinet and djembe add diversity and atmosphere to the jam sound too. Nothing For Tomorrow isn't a whole lot different than Showtime but is a perfect companion to it. Let's hope there will be another full length album from this great band soon.. Cosmicmasseur. |
