Band: My Dying Bride
Title: Bring Me Victory
Label: Peaceville Records
Distribution: Suburban
Release date: xxx
Review: MCD
This is not a new album by My Dying Bride!
A compilation-mini-album, with old and new material, four tracks in total (all recorded at Futureworks during August last year, and produced / mixed by Mags), and a video clip.
Opens with Bring Me Victory itself, taken from the band’s last full length, For Lies I Sire. Great violins, great riffs and rhythm section, and those splendid ‘haunting’ vocals by Mister Stainthorpe…
Then: Scarborough Fair, with new lyrics… What about Leaves’ Eyes? What about them?
Followed by Failure, a Swans-cover, nice, very nice, of course… Almost a neo-folky The Doors-meet-Blood Axis-meet-Ulver-symbiosis??? …but with a clear My Dying Bride-approach!
Finally a ‘classic’: a live version of Vast Choirs, a heavy killer track that originates from the early years; again a milestone, that’s evident…
And as bonus the enhanced video clip for the title track, directed by Charlie Granberg. Pro or contra, it’s up to you.
Conclusion: a MUST fro every MDB-fan, and a recommendation to the rest of World Doom.
