Band : Year Long Disaster Year Long Disaster’s debut was an album that entertained me very much, so I was eager to hear what's on their follow-up Black Magic: All Mysteries Revealed. My first impression was slight disappointment. Without being a bad album, it was hard to find real highlights on it. Being the logical successor to their debut, it offers eleven songs in just less than forty minutes, preventing boredom from the beginning. But the second cd needs some time investing, and after two more runs, I began to like it. The main difference to their debut album is that the new one is much more slick and polished. There is a definite fondness for AC/DC, Cream, ZZ Top, Led Zeppelin and even Motley Crue and artists like Wolfmother or The Answer are easily outrun on certain tracks. Not every song is an instant classic, but “Stranger in my room”, “She told us all” and “Show me your teeth” are vintage Year Long Disaster combining grooving classic rock with Davies’ excellent vocals.. Songs such as “Sparrow hill” and “Foggy bottom” seem very easy on the surface, but once you dive deeper into their sound, you will still discover their excellent skills. Year Long Disaster will support Karma to Burn on April 10th, the Belgian duo SardoniS will open this evening in Het Depot with a special CD release party 87/100 Cosmicmasseur. |
