“21st Century Rock” is 77’s debut album and got in the European stores last month. The band first saw light in the middle of 2005 in Spain, and with their first work they tried to be like an all time favorite. Upon listening to the album, it will immediately recall you to the Australian giant AC/DC. The like their big idols so much that they not only sound like them, they have a pair of brothers at the front of the band and, curiously, both are the responsible for the lead (a Gibson SG, of course) & the rhythm guitar.
These days it’s hard to sound new, fresh and original. Most of the time bands steal elements or copy from a bigger and better band in the hope people will like their music than. Now I don’t now if 77 were keeping that in mind, because apart from the sound of the vocals this could be from AC/DC. Now strangely it doesn’t sound like a rip off, has potential and some musicianship, it isn’t really an appealing album. Most of the songs are down tempo songs and it bothers me, most band copiers still have a certain groove going on or a couple of songs that really interest me, but on this album I couldn’t find 1 song that really blew me away.
It’s not a bad album, but the original is better and some look a likes to, this one is not bad but nothing new.
