CD REVIEW Abrogation

Band: Abrogation
Title: Sarggeburt
Label: Twilight Zone Records
Distribution: Bertus
Release date: 01/03/2010
Review: CD

The German band Abrogation did release a mini-album (Creation Of Madness, 1998) and three full lengths (Handwerk Des Todes, 1999; Das Blut Der Toten, 2002; and 1487, 2005) before, and Sarggeburt is the logical continuation of this series. The album lasts for more than fifty minutes and comes with a decent sound and mature song writing.
The performance is grandiose too. The members (Frank Schwarte-v, g; John Doe-d; Rainer Wiezorek-b; and Poldi-g) play with audible pleasure and conviction, and the totality of their qualities gets translated into gloomy, blood-dripping hymns. The songs, mainly mid-tempo oriented, are both melodic and epic, with dry, pounding rhythms, some thrashier, faster pieces, folksy elements, a few spherical keyboards and flashy guitar solos, and a war-lusting atmosphere.
The lyrics are in German and deal with dark medieval times.
