Band : Audiovision When I bought the first Audiovision CD back in 2005 I must not have paid notice to the lyrics I suppose, just focusing on the music. I confess having bough it mainly because I knew Christian Rivel or Liljegren cause that's his real name, from his work with Divine Fire and Narnia, and I liked both bands. Musically I found the first Audiovision a very strong piece of work, so it was with great expectations that I put this second opus in my CD player. Just like the first album, musically this is a very nice album. At times it reminds me of Whitesnake, Stryper or even Deep Purple (some of the keyboard sections are fantastic). But one way or another I started listening more carefully to the lyrics. Hell I thought, this sounds like a Christian rock album. Searching a bit in the biography it indeed turned out to be a Christian inspired album. But whereas Stryper for instance manage to write decent texts, these lyrics seem almost to be written by a five year old, they're that simple and repetitive. To give you an example, in "You are the reason", the song is centered around: "You are the reason, my solid ground, If everything changes, you are my rock", and this chorus is repeated endlessly. And sadly, but true, the same can be said about the other songs. Top marks for the music, and for the vocals of Christian, but I sincerely hope that next time they'll pay more attention to the lyrics. Although surely with a Christian audience they'll be very successful, if I had to choose a Christian band to listen to it would have to be Stryper or White Heart. 68/100 Erik Morren. |
