Review : CD

The band proved vital and in top form when they convinced yours truly at Burg Herzberg 2009 and 12th year anniversary of Orange Factory with stunning sets. But their studio material needs to be better if Highway Child want to be in the major league.

On The Old Kings Road was a great album, which left expectations high for Sanctuary Come. The album does disappoint a little bit. Highway Child play like a well oiled engine but lacks the final gear to make their music really powerful.. The songs are quite good, but as the record progresses everything flows together with layered vocals and the music wrapped up in a polished sound. The songs are guitar driven with the “Once is once too much” and “Take you down” as finest examples. Highway Child have thrown in a few ballads such as John Lennon-like title track and “Dear girl” which make nice use of piano and acoustic guitar. Lorenzo Woodrose makes a guest appearance on the up-tempo “Turn me on”. A little more rawness and variation is to be preferred.

Santuary Come is a release that won't offend anybody, but Highway Child still lack the top songs to make a noticeable impact on the listener.

70/100
